Comments and mentions

Discussion on an issue, @mentions, and why comments are part of what a reviewer receives.

Available Updated 2026-09-23

Every issue has a comment thread. Posted comments synchronize to permitted teammates when connectivity and delivery allow; there is no fixed delivery-time guarantee.

Mentions

Type @ and pick a teammate to mention them.

Mentions do not notify yet

A mention links the person and marks the comment as directed at them. In-app notifications and email are planned, not built — so a mention is currently a marker inside the thread, not a way to reach someone who is not looking. Tell them another way if it is time-sensitive.

Comments load on demand

Comments are fetched when you open an issue rather than downloaded with everything else. The first open of an issue may show the thread a beat after the rest of the page; loaded comments can then be read from the local replica.

An issue’s unloaded comments remain unavailable offline until they can be fetched. Core issue fields already in the local replica remain readable; server-only material such as linked Vault page bodies still needs a connection.

Comments are review material

A comment thread is usually where the parts of a decision that never made it into the description live — the constraint someone raised, the question nobody answered, the “let’s leave that for later” that was never written down anywhere else.

This is why comments are pulled into an issue’s context bundle rather than being treated as chat. It is also why the bundle marks truncation in place: a bundle is bounded, and a dropped comment that the reviewer does not know was dropped is worse than one they can see was cut.

If something in a thread is a decision the team will need again, promote it to a Vault page or into the issue’s Intent. Threads are searched less often than you expect.

Editing and deleting

You can edit and delete your own comments. Edits replace the text; there is no per-comment revision history. If it matters that a statement existed, quote it rather than editing it away.
